AREA
OF PRACTICE:
Mr. Barnes has concentrated his practice in
the oil and gas exploration and production business. He is primarily
a litigator handling complicated natural gas production and marketing,
geological, engineering and environmental issues. However, he has
also worked in the industry as an in-house attorney, landman and
executive. This varied background has given him a practical approach
to client representation.
WRITING & LECTURES:
Mr. Barnes authored "Preparing and Understanding
the Joint Operating Agreement", presented to the Oklahoma City
University School of Law in 1984 and to various other groups in
succeeding years. Mr. Barnes authored "Environmental Pollution
in the Oil Patch", presented to the Oklahoma Bar Association
in 1989. He co-authored "Common Law In Pollution Cases, The
Plaintiff's Viewpoint", published in the Oklahoma Environmental
Law Handbook. Mr. Barnes co-authored "Tort Liability for Past
Mineral Development Activities" Rocky Mountain Mineral Law
Institute, 1998, and presented the lecture at the seminar. He co-authored
"The Allocation of Risk in Gas Purchase Contracts After Golsen
v. ONG Western, Inc.", Oklahoma City University Law Review
Fall, in 1988. Mr. Barnes has been a frequent lecturer over the
years on many aspects of the petroleum industry.

Mr. Barnes is listed in The

Mr. Barnes was the
lead counsel in the Bridenstine
v. Kaiser-Francis Oil Co., et al., Case No. CJ-2000-1
(formerly Beaver county Case No. CJ-95-54), District Court
of Texas County, Oklahoma. Judgment entered on the jury verdict
of actual damages in the amount of $54,960,606.30 and punitive
damages in the amount of $18,803,446.85. Settlement with the
other Defendants, excluding Kaiser-Francis, totaled approximately
$26 million dollars. On
August 23, 2004 Bridenstine and sole remaining defendant
(Kaiser-Francis) reached a settlement after the case has been
pending for over 9 years. The
settlement amount is $82.5 million dollars accruing interest
